Spay/Neuter Info         Limited Admission Shelters           Open Admission Shelters

Spaying or neutering your own pets is the single most important thing that everyone can do to help us end the use of euthanasia as a means of population control for dogs and cats. Shelters in Maricopa CountyArizona alone destroy almost 60,000 dogs and cats each year for lack of homes.

The second step you can take to help reduce the number of dogs and cats that die each year is not to surrender your dog or cat to a shelter.  If you have behavioral issues with your dog or cat there is help. The Arizona Animal Welfare League and the Arizona Humane Society are two organizations listed here that can help. Don’t delay, act now. It may save your pet’s life.

Third, spread the word about the importance of spaying or neutering pets to family, friends, and co-workers. Let them know how many dogs and cats are dying for lack of homes. Tell them about the low cost spay/neuter options listed below.  Keep the Spay/Neuter Hotlines’ telephone number with you so that you can help whenever the need arises – (602) 265-SPAY (7729).

Finally, if you find a “lost” dog or tame cat – the first step you should take is to try to find the owner. Post signs, put an ad in the newspaper, take the animal to a vet to be scanned for a microchip that will tell you who the owner is and how to contact them. For more information on what you can do to find the owner and to report a “found” pet visit Pets911 or call them at 1-888-Pets911.
